Cozy City Builder genre is certainly experiencing a boom, lucky for fans of Cozy Gaming like yours truly! Town to City caught my eye the moment it slid across my desk as it announced the early access arrival, and after spending the weekend growing my small rural hamlet into a thriving town, I can say this – It made me wish it was as simple as getting on a train and heading out to carve out a special place in your own world, what a magical experience that would be!

Most city builders start you off easy enough and then introduce what I like to call the ‘pain elements’, it may be a natural calamity or the way the economy ramps up like in old school SimCity, Cities Skylines or even political unrest like in Tropico. But when it comes to a cozy city builder, the experience is a lot more… Well, cozy!

It made me wish it was as simple as getting on a train and heading out to carve out a special place in your own world, what a magical experience that would be!

There are growing demands and requests from your villagers but as the villagers will remind you, “Don’t worry, we’re not in a rush. We’re patient villagers”

And that’s what made me sink hour after hour into Town to City. Usually the thrill would be in the ‘what’s next’ but there’s a more ‘It will come, let me enjoy what I have in front of me’ element with this game, add to it the fact that the game allows you to also make your villages, hamlets, towns and later cities aesthetically pleasing thanks to the building variants, you can really enjoy the process.

And that’s what Town to City is about, enjoying the journey. It’s not about speedrunning to a metropolis that lacks all personality and is colored by the same brush. It’s about enjoying the small interactions, maintaining a happy community and enjoying seeing your little town grow and flourish.

Town to City is a great cozy builder that’s an easy recommendation to any cozy fan, even if you’re not a cozy gamer, give it a go. You might just become one!
