YouTube Shorts has been a game-changer for channels looking to break out and get discovered by potential subscribers. Before, you had to rely entirely on YouTube’s magical algorithm gods to smile down on you, but now? One viral short could potentially lead to becoming YouTube Partnership program.

And there’s one step that’s extremely crucial that you might be missing that hurts your own chances of getting discovered, and believe it or not, it has nothing to do with your video, your content or title and thumbnail.

It’s a checkbox.

While publishing a YouTube short, there’s a check box that’s clicked on by default.

What this checkbox does is that it sends your short to all your subscribers. If they watch it, then they suggest it to the rest of YouTube and give you placement on the coveted shorts feed/shelf.

The problem? If they aren’t subscribers gained with the same niche, and they skip away? YouTube will decide your short isn’t worth the airtime and simply kill any momentum.

If you uncheck the box, YouTube sends it out to literally everyone and anyone who may want to watch the video, and that relies on YouTube’s algorithm and the topic you choose for your video. This means that there’s a higher chance of recruiting new subscribers as the video will automatically be featured to viewers who are interested in the topic, which then leads to more organic boosting on YouTube’s side.

Of course, your content is king, a bad short will always perform badly, but sadly, a good short doesn’t always perform well, and this one setting might be why you’re not getting the views you deserve.
