With it being the New Year, I took part in an age old tradition – New Year’s Resolution. Nothing drastic, something simple – I exercise regularly, and I am using my trusty Meta Quest 3 to make sticking to the resolution more fun. Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve tried an ‘Fitness x Gaming’ experience, from games that do provide a workout like Beat Saber to a more Fitness oriented experience like FitXR, I’ve tried them all.

This is why when I had a chance to take Shardfall FitQuest for a run, I was excited and cautiously optimistic that maybe this might be the year I get to stick with it, because despite the other apps being very good – they didn’t keep me interested.

Shardfall FitQuest VR felt different, with Quell Technology out of the UK initially developing the game for their own proprietary hardware called Impact, I was worried it wouldn’t work as well on Meta Quest 3, gamers know all too well about bad ports.

I was pleasantly surprised that it translated quite well with Meta Quest 3, I didn’t feel any issues with accuracy and while Impact still has additional features like the ability to add more traction and burn more calories, it didn’t feel like a port. It felt like a game built for Meta Quest and it did a great job of getting me to exercise, which is no small feat.

The game has you fighting blighted machines and ‘purifying’ the world around you, the game will have you jog on the spot as well as punch and block your way to success, and it’s a good workout at that!

When a lot of us struggle to keep our New Year resolutions, with Shardfall FitQuest VR, I feel I have a better chance at sticking with it and keeping fit.
